| Oct 22 Written by:aajoanne Wednesday, October 22, 2008 Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog! I am slightly offended. I was working on some decorating yesterday and the dogs, of course, were right there with me. I have a 48" wreath that hangs over my mantle. It's a funky wreath with stems with no flowers on them, rose heads with no stems, strips of grocery bags woven in. I was ready to change it up so I got some new product to add to it.
We took it outside for dusting and later I went to work on it. Reno had gone up to bed, which left Mickey, Sidney and Maddie in the front room with me. Mick and Sidney were crashed out on the sofa, and Maddie snuggled into the recliner.
They snoozed away peacefully until I hauled the 6' ladder into the front room. At that point they were sneaking peeks while feigning sleeping to keep an eye on me. All was good until I started up the ladder with the wreath in tow. Truthfully, I had it all under control. At that point there was some mutual telepathic communication between the three dogs - it said - run, run for your life. All three high tailed it out of the front room. Helllooo??? Do I look dangerous? I guess I must.
Now, that wasn't so bad and I didn't take it too personally. This morning, however, I watched Reno step over three resting dogs while carrying his brief case and a large box of business stuff. Not a dog budged. Why didn't that set off the warning signals???
The likelihood of a misplaced foot was much greater than a giant wreath tumbling from 6' up. But the dogs weren't taking any chances. Which, like I said, I find slightly offensive. Tags: 5 comments so far...
Re: Looks Like Trouble
I'm right on board with you...it's a joke at our house that the "boys" always say "be careful when mom gets the ladder and a hammer! They, also, say I am the noisiest mom in the world (always dropping something) but they don't seem to get nervous when hubby goes to work! Yep! I get a little offended, too! ;)

I WISH I HAD THAT TROUBLE LOL!!!! I'm disabled 5# Mini-Dachshund female (Brandi), 7# Chihuahua male (Chico), 8# Albino Cat male (Snowball). & 18# (down with work from the 22# when we got her LOL) Tuxedo Cat female (Oreo), (all animals kept the names they had when we got them LOL) & Cats & Dogs alike think I'm an Obstacle course, Trampoline, & Bed for their private enjoyment I'm beginning to wonder if we need to leash them to the "Wall" to keep me from falling LOL!! (9 out of ten times I have to wait for help to get up even if I can get them to back off LOL) but i LOVE them too much to ever consider that when my Hubby wanted to date me i warned him if my Wolves (i had at that time) didn't like him he was gone i learned yrs ago to trust my animals can't manage to teach Hubby how to train them can no longer train animals myself can't afford to pay for training any ideas for rescue someone told Adult Protective Services & they want them gone i say NO way!!!!!!!!

Re: Looks Like Trouble
my babies are the same way. They leave Dad alone but anytime I try to do something all 4 of them are right there to help! Our latest dog Benji (we call him Boo) puts anything that lands on the floor in his mouth. So I try not to drop anything. Doesn't work all the time.

Re: Looks Like Trouble
LOL, I know what you mean. My dogs will leave the room when I'm on a ladder, and that's a good thing since I will admit I'm a bit of a klutz. The cats on the other hand want to climb up there with me. I try to keep the door closed when I'm up on a ladder but the cats will pound on the door (sounds like the FBI coming to arrest me) until I open it. Then they all want to get on the ladder. It's not bad if I'm changing a lightbulb, but painting becomes a real problem. A lot of my walls have this sort of feathery pattern in the paint. Who knows, maybe it'll start a fashion trend.

Re: Looks Like Trouble
I have two Shih Tzus - Ella (3) and Logan (2). I can step over Ella while she's asleep, lift my leg over her leash when I get tangled, stumble to avoid running into her when she stops right in front of me and she NEVER is worried that I'm going to hurt her. Logan on the other hand, must think that I am going to kick her whenever I lift my foot more than 3 - 4 inches above the ground. Heaven forbid I'm untangling myself from her leash by stepping over it, she cringes like I've just taken a tennis racket to her. While I've never kicked her (purposefully or not), she does insist on sleeping under my feet when I'm on the couch, and I end up stepping on her all the time.
Don't worry about your illogical dogs. All of them tend to be the same way.
