| Nov 12 Written by:aajoanne Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog! It was a Kodak moment, and of course, my Kodak was not at hand. I walked into the bedroom and there lies Mickey. In the middle of the king-sized bed, on his back. In all his doggy bliss, king of the bed. Generally, we laugh at his bedroom antics. If the bed is made he will pull the covers down to expose a pillow and snuggle in there on the pillow. If the bed is not made and the pillows are nicely exposed, he will sleep at the bottom of the bed on the pile of covers. Mick prefers the bed sans humans. Go figure.
Kobe has several "beds". Most of which are on ground level. He has his corner bed in the bedroom. His office bed next to my computer. And, of course, his recliner bed. Being the first dog to ever have recliner privileges at my house, he rules the roost nicely from there.
Maddie sleeps on both sides of the bed. Depending on which of us is tolerating the extra warmth from her snuggling. From now through April (barring hot flashes) she'll snuggle in right by the small of my back like a furry hot water bottle. When it's cold out, Mick will join the mix, snuggling in right behind my knees. He's not a furry hot water bottle kind of dog. But we have a heat transfer system going. Maddie warms me, I warm Mick. Reno? His job is to maintain control of his share of the blankets - no easy task that.
Sidney has his section of the sofa, and his crate. He is curled up on his sofa right now. In his place, in his little ball. He does the same thing in his crate, but doesn't have to endure the imposition of sharing his crate, like he has to share his sofa.
I've come a long way since I let the dogs start sleeping with me. And I love it, well except for when it's really hot, or I'm really hot. But you know, they don't mind if I kick them out of bed once in a while. They simply wait until I drift off to sleep again, and like the stealth dogs they are, they fly in under the radar and assume the position.

Re: Bed Dogs
Ah yes! My Thor has found out that in his new forever home with us he has many things he never had before. It hasn't taken him long to decide that my HUSBAND'S spot on the couch, actually belongs to HIM! They have a "discussion" about it every evening! uhhhhh...husband wins! :) But Thor moves to the other end, happily, I think.

Re: Bed Dogs
How funny!!!!! My doggies also sleep with me and I love it. Alot of the time I get waken up in the middle of the night because my dog is so suggled up with me that she starts dreaming and starts to kick. If they dont sleep with me I feel like theres something missing!!!!

This is sooo cute..I used to never let any dog sleep with me. but I can't see Punky Wengi alone, he is also my best freind and he does't mind eitherif kick him off once in a while. He sleeps in A/C and all and cuddles up with me, sometimes he evens takes more of the bed than me. He's so cute..I love him everyday...:) :) :)

Re: Bed Dogs
Thank goodness for king size beds!!!! Our two doxies, Molli B & Daisy Mae, plus our rather large cat, KiKi, all three run for the bed when we cut the front lights out. Everyone gets settled in their spots and off to sleep we go. It is wonderful to be woke up with a big slobbery kiss in the mornings. I get up at 4:30 am to get ready for work and they all three come out with me to go outside. Then its back to the kitchen for their tiny treat after which Daisy goes back to bed with her daddy and Molli gets on the couch where she can wait for me to leave. The cat follows me around while getting ready. Such a zoo we live in. Ha Ha

Re: Bed Dogs
All four of my dogs, my Jack mix, Pearl, my lab mix, Febe, my Pitbull, Ziggy, and my old retriever mix, Pharaoh, sleep with me. I just have to say "Let's go "night nights" and there they go, Pharaoh is my bed warmer, right in my spot, the rest each have their spots, but of course, Pearl (the Queen) waits until everyone is settled in before she grabs her spot right next to Mommy. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love my "Doggie Warmers"

Re: Bed Dogs
how does anyone sleep without the help of our four legged lifesavers they help us stay calm & therefore avoid asthma attacks & lower Blood pressure & control Diabeties & keeping warm at night oh they are siomuch better then Hubbys he's by the wall on our double bed (bout 5 -10# overweight LOL) then there's our male Chihuahua at my seat & thighs then i keep a pillow between my legs (due to bursitus in both hips LOL & I'm morbidly obese double my weight & trying to Lose) & our female Mini-Dachshund is on or under (mostly under) the pillow in front of my legs the Albino Tom Cat thinks I AM the bed & lies on my hip-side-shoulder (sometimes curled hip-side sometimes just side sometimes side-shoulder sometimes stretched to all LOL) & then there's the Tuxedo Queen sometimes at the foot of the bed but mostly on my pillow ON MY HAIR & SOMETIMES ON MY HEAD (so i end up having to carefully move to get out from under her without letting the pillows & her end up on the FLOOR LOL

Re: Bed Dogs
My pitbull Boo is my bed dog. Sure the poms will come up and visit once in a while, especially when I'm first waking up, it's like doggy breakfast in bed...lots of love and licks...and the occasional 'paw steps' across the middle of my stomach UGH! But for almost 12 yrs now, which I've been single most of that time, Boo has been on 'his side' of the bed. If he's on 'my side' when I shut off the computer and tv, he gets up and scoots over to his side. It's our nightly routine...tho sometimes I do tell him to 'scoot over'...if he's really tired, I have to tell him twice, but he knows what it means and eventually gets up and moves over. Then I wrap my arms around him, talking to him and cuddling him before going to sleep...it's relaxing for both of us. I would suggest a bed dog to anyone. Kathy

Re: Bed Dogs
ALL of my dogs, including the Great Dane, figure it's their birthright to sleep on the bed, preferrably with me, but without me in a pinch. But I also do rescue, so I usually have 3 or 4 fosters here, too -- and they always want to get in on the action, or maybe it's inaction. Since I try to crate-train them all before adoption, that doesn't always work, but some of the special needs dogs -- blind, deaf, or deaf and blind -- end up staying here a long time, so eventually, they too work their way into the nest. Heartbreaking when a little blind poodle, bailed from a shelter just before euthanization, has enough confidence to jump up onto the bed; I'd have to be totally heartless to turn her away. My husband thinks I'm demented, but after 30 years together, he's learned to tolerate my eccentricities. And even he doesn't sleep well unoless his personal dog is curled up on his pillow, warming his bald patch. Bed dogs are the best, and if other people thinks we're crazy, well, then, more fools them.

It is really hard for me to sleep without them. Thay are so cute and loving. I get a face wash from Rocky every time I lay down. We really love our pugs. They brighten our days and are so loving. Re: Bed Dogs
We took home a young stray cat from my brother-in-law's house and bought him a nice warm kitty bed... which he slept in until about two weeks later, when one night he jumped onto our bed with a "here I am" mew and started purring when he snuggled in between my husband and myself. Whenever we tried to move him he did this Cat Zen "I am a rock - you cannot move me" thing, and we gave the cat bed to the local shelter and got used to hearing loud purring all night long. Eleven years later and you can find Hobbes under the covers, snuggled next to me and purring, every night.

Re: Bed Dogs
My 2 dogs(both weigh in at 115) sleep with me along with our cat. I do have a king size bed and it works out just fine until my truck driver husband is home. Then we still all fit, but sometimes the covers don't seem to cover a lot. But I love having my dogs on my bed, on my couch, under my feet at the desk. I don't know how I ever managed with out them. I loved reading all your messages. As Sonya said " They brighten our days and are so loving. Could not do without them". I couldn't have said it better myself.
