Missy, Spooky and Princess

We lost three kitties this year.  Missy had a tumor deep in her intestines.  We did not know about it.  I always check for lumps.  This was so deep I never found it.  She was acting very oddly one day.  I took her to the vet.  She died in my arms in the exam room before the vet could look at her.  The vet checked her over after the fact.  She found the tumor and said it would have been inoperable.  At least, I know there was little I could have done to save her.  I just wish I could have made her more comfortable in her last days.  She was a cat unto herself.  Very sweet in her own ways, but with strict ideas on who she was.  She was the mother of 4 babies: 3 boys and 1 girl.  The girl still lives with us.  Her name is Boo. She was a very young mother at barely a year.  She was a good caring mother.  Using toy mice, she taught her babies how to hunt even though they were all inside cats.

Spooky died of a tumor in his jaw.  I got him just before Halloween many years ago.  He was the only kitten left in the kitty cage at a pet store where I purchased many of my animal supplies.  I opened the cage to pet him as he looked so lonely.  He climbed into my arms, settled in with his purr box going on over drive.  My vet at the time warned me that some people were twisted enough to hurt black cats at that time of year.  No problem, all mine are inside only.  He was a sweet cat, although a bit strange in his later years.  He had a bad experience that seemed to affect him mentally and possibly emotionally.  But I still loved him.  He was all black except a few chest hairs and a tiny pencil point thin line around his leg.  He was shaped like a Siamese.  Had the voice of a Siamese and beautiful amber eyes that looked like glowing pumpkins.  The tumor actually broke his jaw.  We managed his pain, hand fed him and kept him with us until the quality of his life started to go.  We had to help him along, but it was the right choice.

Princess was my mom's cat.  She too passed from a tumor.  This one was growing out of her side.  Mom had it operated on once and we hoped for the best.  Unfortunately, it grew back.  She was adopted from our local SPCA shortly after mom married and moved out.  After mom moved back in with me a couple of years later, Princess lived in the master bedroom and was queen of her domain.  In fact, I held her while mom filled out the papers.  I remember some kids came into the kitty room, her reaction was to cling to me.  The staff had told us she liked older people best.  Whenever mom would go out of town, I would take care of Princess.  By day three we would be best buds.
